Basement Drainage in Ottawa

Interior perimeter drainage systems that manage water where your basement floor meets the foundation wall.
Overview

Basement Drainage: what you should know

Water often enters a basement at the joint between the floor slab and the foundation wall, especially after heavy rain or the spring thaw. An interior drainage system is designed to intercept that water before it spreads across the floor.

We start by looking at where and when water appears, then explain whether interior drainage is a sensible option for your home or whether another approach should be considered first.

Signs your basement may need a drainage assessment

Solutions

How interior drainage helps manage water

Perimeter trench and drain pipe

A channel is cut along the inside edge of the floor and a perforated pipe is set in clean stone to collect water at the wall base.

Wall drainage membrane

A dimpled membrane can guide water running down the wall into the drain rather than onto the floor.

Discharge to a sump

Collected water is routed to a sump pit where it can be pumped out and away from the house.

Foundation leaks and cracks

Where a drainage system is already in place, we look at whether a repair or a partial replacement is the more suitable option.

FAQ

Basement Drainage questions

Can’t find your question? Call us and we’ll talk it through.
What is an interior perimeter drain?
It is a drainage pipe installed below the basement floor along the inside of the foundation walls. It collects water that reaches the floor and wall joint and directs it to a sump for removal.
Interior drainage manages water once it reaches the inside of the foundation. It does not seal the outside of the wall. Depending on the situation, exterior work or crack repair may also be worth discussing.
Typically only a strip of floor along the affected walls is opened. The exact extent depends on the layout and the walls involved, which we confirm during the assessment.
Finished walls and flooring along the perimeter may need to be removed to reach the work area. We discuss access and what will be affected before any work is planned.
